Jordin Tootoo sent to minor league hockey team

The Detroit Red Wings have sent Nunavut hockey star Jordin Tootoo to the AHL's Grand Rapids Griffins.
Jordin Tootoo has been sent to the AHL's Grand Rapids Griffins since no NHL teams picked him up after he was put on waivers by the Detroit Red Wings last week.

The Detroit Red Wings have sent Nunavut hockey star Jordin Tootoo to the AHL's Grand Rapids Griffins.

Tootoo was in his second season of a three-year contract with the Red Wings. He was put on waivers last week, but no other NHL team picked him up.

The Red Wings sent Tootoo to the Griffins, along with defenceman Xavier Ouellet.

Tootoo is expected to play his first game in Grand Rapids, Mich., tonight, against the Rockford IceHogs.
