Iqaluit RCMP are investigating a fire that broke out at the 600 block of the White Row complex early Saturday morning.

RCMP received a call about the fire at 12:06 a.m. and responded to find the Iqaluit Fire Department already working to extinguish the blaze.

Officers alerted the tenants of the 10-unit complex, and helped the firefighters gain entry to the unit where the fire started. The tenants of the unit were not home at the time of the fire. The fire was contained to one bedroom in the unit.

After the fire department declared the complex safe, all other tenants were able to return to their homes.

Police say the origin of the fire appears to be suspicious.  Investigators are working with an RCMP Fire Investigator and the Office of the Fire Commissioner to determine the cause.

Anyone with information about the fire is asked to contact the Iqaluit RCMP detachment or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.

Last February two people died in a fire that gutted the 300 block of the White Row complex.
