Iqaluit RCMP charge 2 men with marijuana trafficking
Two men are facing charges in Iqaluit following a marijuana trafficking investigation that lasted several months.
Police seized just over three kilograms of marijuana and $16,500 in cash from a residence in the Eight Storey building on May 27.
RCMP confirm the drugs were also being sold from the location.
"In this case, we'd like to thank local residents and businesses for their involvement in standing up against crime," said Sgt. Yvonne Niego, spokesperson for RCMP V Division in Iqaluit.
Two men were arrested the same day in connection with the seizure.
A 22-year-old part-time resident of Iqaluit is facing one count of trafficking, three counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking and one count of possession of property obtained by crime. Bruce Tshibangu is currently in custody and will appear in court June 17.
30-year-old Matthew Kipanik, an Iqaluit resident, is charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking and resisting arrest. He will appear in court July 7.
