Inuvik, N.W.T.’s Children First Centre has won $50,000 in a national contest to put towards purchasing playground equipment.

The centre won the grand prize in the small idea category of the Aviva Community Fund competition, it was announced Tuesday.

The centre will provide 120 toddler and infant child-care spaces when construction is completed. The total budget for construction is about $6 million.

The design for the centre has also earned an award. Canadian Architect magazine has given Kobayashi and Zedda Architects of Whitehorse the magazine's Award for Excellence.

The magazine said it was impressed by the design and especially the effort to increase natural light with angled windows.
