Inuksuk High School bomb scare forces evacuation
Inuksuk High School in Iqaluit was evacuated this morning because of a bomb scare.
About 300 students and 40 staff were asked to leave the building, along with about 30 children at the Inuksuk Infant Development Centre.
Romeyn Stevenson is the school's vice-principal.
He says if this turns out to be a prank, it's a crime.
"It has a huge impact on the lives of all the students,” says Stevenson. “There were 30 different things probably scheduled for this afternoon, big and small, that will be missed because of this.”
Stevenson also says an event like this can generate a lot of fear, “the feeling of not being safe, which is reconfirmed or is felt when you have something like this."
School will be out for the afternoon.
RCMP and the fire department are now searching the building.
Stevenson says officials hope to have students back in class tomorrow morning.
