Traditional games are passed down from generation to generation, and the McDonald family of Fort Smith, N.W.T., has dominated in Arctic Sports at the Arctic Winter Games for two generations now.
It was about 20 years ago that Tim McDonald started training his daughter Meika McDonald in Arctic Sports such as high kick and kneel jump. Meika broke world records at the Arctic Winter Games.
Her daughter Veronica, 19, now holds the junior world record for kneel jump. Veronica was also trained by Tim.

On Tuesday she won a silver ulu in the event, another silver in the arm pull, and won gold in the two-foot high kick.
This year, Veronica's younger sister Kezia, 12, is competing at the games for the first time.
“You get to sort of live all these exciting times through your children and grandchildren and it’s wonderful,” Tim says.
