A new volunteer group in Hay River is hoping to get things done in the community.

The Pharus Group is an organization which coordinates volunteers to work on different projects to help improve civic life. The group had its first event this weekend.

Together with some midget hockey players, they built a temporary rink to replace the damaged Kiwanis rink.

Keith Dohey is group's president. He says the hockey rink is a great place to start.

"There's a lot of groups in Hay River that work really hard to do a lot of different things," Dohey says. "A lot of good things and a lot of different projects that people will work on and we got together to be a broader based, you know, instead of being centred on one thing, we can kind of help out everybody as needed."

The group is recruiting new people right now, and says it doesn't matter if people can only donate a small amount of their time.

He just hopes people come out and lend a hand.
