Many Yukoners are heading to Alaska for the long weekend and Haines is expecting hundreds of visitors this Easter weekend.

Tammy Piper, interim tourism director at the Haines Visitors Centre, says the town is open for business but notes that people going to Haines to fish should be aware of some changes.

"There should be some great places to eat and shop because the season is starting,"

"Our 2014 sport fishing regulations for kings [salmon] have changed so make sure to check what they are before you drop a line in."

Piper says so far there have been no bear sightings, but there have been fresh bear tracks seen around Haines.

Haines Junction checkstops

Haines Junction RCMP will be doing checkstops over Easter weekend, and urge drivers to have their vehicles and snowmobiles in good working order with all the necessary registration, licence and insurance documents up to date.

They also recommend motorists check their trailer equipment to ensure that brakes and lights are working properly.
