The community gas pump in Arviat has been replaced.

The gas dispenser motor stopped working Dec. 28, and that meant no gas for customers.

Padlei Co-op started pumping gas again on New Year's Eve, and the gas bar was open on New Year’s Day.

People in Arviat are getting a short reprieve from the Nunavut gas price increase because of the pump problems. Gas prices across the territory went up by 20 cents a litre Jan. 1.

Officials say Arviat residents have until midnight tonight (Friday) to buy gas at the old price.

The gas price hike will take effect in Arviat on Saturday, Jan. 4.
