Both allegations date back to March 1, 1979.

RCMP in Behchoko say they received the complaint in March of this year and did an investigation.

Three men — Lafferty, Leonard Camsell and Jonas Bouvier — have been charged by one victim who cannot be identified at this time.

"All three are charged with the offences as they existed at the time which were rape and indecent assault," said Cpl. Ben Parry.

Lafferty is also a former MLA in the N.W.T. legislature for the North Slave riding, which was renamed Monfwi in 2005. He also ran for Tlicho Grand Chief earlier this year.

Lafferty is scheduled to appear in court in Behchoko on Dec. 20.
