Flags at buildings in Yellowknife and across Canada will fly at half mast today in honour of police and other peace officers who have died on duty.

RCMP officers in the North and across Canada who died on the job are being honoured on Police and Peace Officers' National Memorial Day.

This year's memorial pays tribute to Constable Michael Potvin who died in Mayo, Yukon in July 2010.

In total, more than 700 officers will be honoured across the country.

There was a small memorial service at the RCMP station in Yellowknife starting at 10 a.m.
