A fire broke out in an Iqaluit apartment building around 2:30 a.m. local time Friday.
No one was injured. The fire damaged three of 17 units at Building 2245, also known as the Crosswinds building.
Iqaluit fire chief Luc Grandmaison said by the time fire crews arrived, RCMP had already evacuated the building.
"People need to react quickly to fire, get out and stay safe," he said.
Grandmaison said no residents will be able to return to the building tonight and fire officials will watch to make sure there are no hot spots.
The cause of the fire is still unknown but it originated underneath the floor and Grandmaison said it could have easily spread further.
