Inuvialuktun broadcaster Dorothy Arey, who hosted CBC North's Tusaavik for 23 years before retiring in 2010, has died.

Arey was known as a champion of the Inuvialuit language.

Her radio show featured translations of the CBC news as well as local news and community messages, such as notices of births, deaths and people going hunting — all the important markers of Inuvialuit life.
