Don't eat Pangnirtung clams, say Nunavut health officials
Reports of illness after eating locally harvested clams
Nunavut's health department is warning people not to eat clams harvested in Pangnirtung.
In a news release, officials say they're investigating reports of people becoming ill after eating local clams.
Symptoms include swelling of the face, a tingling around the mouth and chin, and an itchy rash.
So far, tests haven't found anything unusual in the clams, but the investigation is ongoing. People are being asked not to eat clams until further notice.
Officials say if someone has eaten clams and have symptoms or questions, he or she should contact the community health centre in Pangnirtung.
