Two dogs that attacked a woman in Fort Liard, N.W.T., have been put down.

RCMP in the community have confirmed the owners voluntarily destroyed the dogs last weekend.

Two weeks ago, a nurse who works at the health clinic was attacked by the dogs while walking on a remote gravel road. She suffered serious bites to her scalp.

The RCMP said there was a history of complaints against the dogs. They said they would have sought a court order to destroy the animals, had the owners not done it voluntarily.

The community has no dog by-laws.

RCMP say charges could still be laid.

The victim is said to be doing ok and is back to work.
