The food bank in Inuvik, N.W.T., will get more security soon thanks to a donation from a Yellowknife company.

Security company Danmax Communication Ltd. is giving the food bank new surveillance cameras, plus the labour to install them.

First Air is also donating the airfare to get a technician to the town.

"I believe that we're going to be putting between two and four cameras to monitor the perimeter, and it's going to have infrared lighting to see evening, pitch black, and they're vandal-proof cameras as well," said Danny Cimon, president of Danmax.

The food bank was heavily vandalized earlier this week. Donated food was destroyed, a table was tipped over and glass jars were smashed. The building has also been broken into several times in the past.

Since the incident, the food bank has been closed until it can get more security.

Volunteers are meeting Sept. 25 to decide what to do next about the recent vandalism.
