Colville Lake, N.W.T., man found dead in cabin

Police say foul play not suspected in death of Mark "Mike" Kochon.

A Colville Lake, N.W.T., hunter and trapper who grew up in the tiny community was found dead on Tuesday, at a cabin about 20 kilometres from town.

Mark Kochon, known locally as Mike, was reported missing Tuesday morning. He was supposed to have returned from his cabin the day before.

Searchers including relatives, friends and RCMP from Fort Good Hope found his body that afternoon in a different cabin. Police do not suspect foul play.

Kochon's body was transported to Edmonton Wednesday for an examination to determine the cause of his death.

Kochon was an expert trapper and hunter. In 2012 the territorial government recognized him as the highest producing trapper in the Sahtu region.
