The CBC North team has taken home two regional Radio-Television News Directors Association awards, being recognized for excellence in electronic journalism.

The Association of Electronic Journalists handed out the awards for the prairie region in Winnipeg Saturday night.

Maamuitaau, a weekly Cree-language news and current affairs show, won the Trina McQueen award for Best TV News Information Program for High Hopes, a show about drug abuse in northern Quebec.

Reporter Kate Kyle won the Dave Rodgers award for long features for her radio story about cancer in Fort Good Hope, N.W.T.

CBC North was also won an honourable mention for Best TV Newscast, small market, for its special live broadcast of the opening of the Deh Cho Bridge in Fort Providence, N.W.T.

Overall, CBC News won a total of 17 RTNDA awards Saturday night.
