Catherine Hoyt has been awarded this year's Council of the Federation Literacy Award for Nunavut.
Premier Eva Aariak made the presentation this week at the Legislative Assembly.
She presented the award to Hoyt, who has been the volunteer chair of Friends for the Iqaluit Centennial Library since 2006
"Under Catherine's leadership the library has improved services and significantly increased literacy based programs to include all Nunavut's official languages for all age groups," Aariak said. "I understand attendance at these programs often reaches maximum capacity."
Hoyt also runs weekly programs and is involved in fundraising. Aariak presented Hoyt with a certificate, medallion and $300 to go to the library. The award is given out annually to someone who encourages and improves literacy in Nunavut.
