Caribou adrift as ice breaks up near Old Crow, Yukon

A video shot in Old Crow, Yukon shows herds of caribou adrift on a fast-moving ice pan. 'Look at that! One jumped in, gee whiz.'

A video showing dozens of caribou stranded on pieces of fast moving ice in the Porcupine River is quickly going viral.

Dayna Lord shot the video, which was posted on Facebook Wednesday evening.

"We've seen some run off the ice and we've seen another bunch of caribou jump off the ice and run up the bank," she says. "Yeah a lot of people feel bad, but it's just something that happens every year."

Ice break-up season is underway across the North with many communities on alert for flooding.
