The trial of Chris Bishop, accused of gunning down three men in Cambridge Bay, Nunavut, in 2007 will not take place in the community where the shooting happened.
The Nunavut Court of Justice has allowed a change of venue for Bishop's trial, meaning it will be held in Iqaluit instead of Cambridge Bay.
Bishop is charged with three counts of first-degree murder and two counts of attempted murder in connection with the Jan. 6, 2007, shooting in the western Nunavut community.
Killed in that incident were Keith Atatahak, 28, Kevin Komaksiut, 21, and Dean Costa, 29. Two others were injured.
Bishop's change of venue application was brought before the court in Cambridge Bay earlier this week.
The evidence related to the application, and the reasons for the court's decision to grant the change of venue, cannot be reported due to a court-imposed publication ban.
The trial is currently scheduled to begin in May.
