Hay RIver, N.W.T., biathlete Brendan Green is racing his final 2014 Olympics race in Sochi, Russia at 7:30 a.m. MT. (CBC)

‚Äč People in Hay River gathered at the Don Stewart arena Saturday morning to watch the race live.

The town has been watching Green's results closely every step of the way.

"It isn't easy for us to get a feed on the biathlon, so everybody is emailing and phoning in the middle of the night, you know...when the races have been fogged out and delayed," sayd Bob White, Green's former cross-country ski coach.

"So we're all up in the middle of the night, we're all sort of groggy during the day, but it's just a kind of tingly kind of feeling. And I am really thinking something special will happen [today]."

Team Canada was a medal contender for this final race, but Green says it's still a strong finish.

Other Canadians on the biathlon relay team include Jean-Philippe Le Guellec of Shannon, Quebec, Regina's Scott Perras, and Calgary's Nathan Smith.
