The community government in Behchoko, N.W.T., wants to borrow up to $9 million from the bank to finish the community's sportsplex.

There was a public meeting held yesterday to tell people about the plan for the Khon Go Cho centre.

"We do have a plan in place to pay off the loan within 20 years or hopefully shorter. There is a very high interest rate that we made reference to, but in our opinion it is very affordable in the long run," said David Steele, the senior administrative officer for Behchoko.

The community of about 2,000 people will vote on Monday whether or not to borrow the money.

Steele said if the loan is approved, the building could be complete in about 16 months.

The building would have a fitness centre, youth centre, arena, kitchen and some office space.
