Alaska avalanche kills 1, injures 2
Christian Cabainilla worked as a guide for a heli-ski operation
One person was killed and two others were injured after an avalanche Sunday in the mountains near Haines, Alaska.
The deceased man, Christian Cabainilla, worked as a guide for a heli-ski operation based in Haines. The company website says Cabainilla had extensive experience as a backcountry ski guide in Alaska and South America.
State troopers from Juneau, Alaska, are expected to arrive in Haines Monday to conduct an investigation.
This is the third heli-skiing fatality in Haines in two years. A guide and a skier died last year near Haines in separate incidents.
