Rescuers are having a hard time reaching seven hunters stranded on an ice floe near Arctic Bay, Nunavut.

The hunters became stranded on Monday evening about 100 kilometres north of Arctic Bay on the east side of Admiralty Inlet.

"The seven hunters are currently believed to be in good health and spirits," said RCMP Sgtl. Yvonne Niego.

They have four sleds and a small boat with them. The hunters have warm clothes and food to last several days.

Helicopters from Pond Inlet and Resolute tried to get to the hunters Wednesday morning but had to turn back because of fog. Once the weather clears, more attempts will be made to reach them.

Arctic Bay's hunters and trappers organization has asked members of the community not to go to the floe edge because it is too dangerous right now.
