Three young people were rescued from some drifting ice in Frobisher Bay near Iqaluit on Sunday.

The three had been ice hopping when a gust of wind unexpectedly pushed them away from shore. They were spotted about 400 to 500 metres from the beach.

Cpl. Yvonne Niego said the RCMP got an anonymous call at about 8 a.m. from a taxi driver and the police immediately called the fire department and search and rescue.

A local man used his boat to bring the three teenagers to shore.

Niego said they are between 16 and 19 years old.
