Two male students, aged 15 and 16, are facing assault and weapons charges after a female student was shot in the leg with a BB gun in Carmacks, Yukon.

The 15-year-old victim was not seriously injured and did not require medical attention.

RCMP were called to Tantalus School over the lunch hour on Friday because the incident involved the use of a replica handgun. The handgun is not a firearm but is capable of firing plastic BBs

Neither of the accused can be named under the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

The male teens appeared in court in Whitehorse over the weekend and were released with conditions.

RCMP say there were no other students involved, and no other weapons found at the school.
