2 missing travellers found safe near Rankin Inlet
Pair left Chesterfield Inlet Saturday by ATV
Two young men who were overdue on their way from Chesterfield Inlet to Rankin Inlet have been found. On July 6, the two men, ages 18 and 19, left Chesterfield Inlet by all-terrain vehicle, heading for Rankin Inlet. When they had not arrived the next day, search and rescue volunteers from both communities went out to look for them.
RCMP Const. Yvonne Niego said the two were found at around 12:30 p.m. Monday.
"Nunavut's Emergency Measures Organization had initiated a helicopter search and within an hour, the two individuals were located," she said.
The men were found about 35 kilometres northeast of Rankin Inlet. Both are in good medical condition.
They had mechanical issues with their ATVs.
Their names have not been released.
