1 musher drops out of Nunavut Quest
Teams expected to reach finish line in Pond Inlet later this week
Eight dog mushers in the Nunavut Quest are about halfway to the finish line.
Nine teams left Igloolik on Thursday on the race to Pond Inlet. One musher from Igloolik has dropped out.
The teams are travelling through mountains on their way to Pond Inlet. It's a total distance of just under 400 kilometres.
On Monday, the mushers stayed put due to a blizzard.
"They were camped for a day due to weather," said Celestino Uyarak, Igloolik's assistant senior administrative officer. "We have heard one of our mushers has stepped down from the race but will participate. We are extremely proud of all of our mushers."
The teams are expected to arrive in Pond Inlet later this week.
