Woman killed in west coast highway crash

One woman is dead following a two-vehicle collision on the Trans-Canada Highway near Deer Lake on Tuesday morning.

One woman is dead following a two-vehicle collision on the Trans-Canada Highway near Deer Lake on Tuesday morning.

RCMP said the accident occurred around 11:30 a.m., a few kilometres east of the Hampton junction.

The collision involved a westbound SUV and an eastbound transport truck. The victim was a passenger in the back seat of the SUV.

The RCMP said two other people in the SUV were taken to Western Memorial Regional Hospital in Corner Brook where they were treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the transport truck was not hurt.

Police were withholding the name of the victim pending notification of next of kin.

It's not clear what caused the accident.
