Woman dies from injuries sustained in Blackmarsh Road fire
The woman who was pulled from a burning house on Blackmarsh Road in St. John's on Thursday has died.
Doctors have confirmed that the woman, 62, succumbed to her injuries at a hospital in Halifax.
The woman was the only person inside the home when the fire broke out around 8 a.m. Thursday. The blaze destroyed the house.
The St. John's Regional Fire Department said extra resources had to be called on to combat the fire, given the freezing temperatures and thick smoke.
While the fire is not considered to be suspicious, the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary said there is still no confirmation on the cause.
The identity of the deceased is being withheld out of respect for the family.
