A young man arrested after a standoff with the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary appeared Tuesday in provincial court in St. John's.
Dwight Saunders, 26, was sent for a brief psychiatric assessment before court proceedings could continue.
Saunders faces several weapons charges, including a 12-gauge shotgun and a .303 rifle while prohibited, having ammunition while prohibited, and careless handling of firearms.
Saunders is also charged with breaching the terms of his probation.
Saunders was arrested after he surrendered to police on Monday afternoon, after barricading himself in a home off Thorburn Road.
