A handful of kids stepped up to hold a fundraiser for a friend's mother in Grand Falls-Windsor.

The children held a car wash outside the Canadian Tire Gas Bar to raise money for Dianne Boyde. They raised $550 in several hours.

Last weekend, the single mother of four was in a vehicle that was struck by a moose. Boyde was rushed to the hospital in St. John's.

Boyde's children hang out at the Exploits Community Centre with kids such as Damian Cooper.

"I think it's important because we're raising money and washing cars," says Cooper.

The Child and Youth Care Worker at the community centre, Catherine Head, said Boyde would be impressed by the children's efforts.

"She's the type of person who would help out anyone just like we are doing," said Head. "I think she'd be really proud of the children and the effort that they are putting in today."

Boyde's condition has now stabilized and she is awaiting surgery.
