WAM picks: Puppetry, Pokemon, and Brianna Gosse at the Hall

Gaming, music, and puppet shows lead a busy weekend of entertainment and family fun in and around St. John's. CBC WAM guest host Jamie Fitzpatrick has all the weekend festivities listed for you.

Brianna Gosse CD Release: Join Brianna and the band at the LSPU Hall for a concert celebrating the release of her album AERA. Friday at 8:00 p.m., with special guest Kat McLevey.

Newfoundland Gaming Expo: Two days of Pokemon, Tetris Attack, Call of Duty, Super Mario Bros. and more. There will be rooms for tournament play, casual play, and table-top games. It's at the MUN University Centre, and all are welcome. Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until 9:00 pm. and Sunday from 10:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. See the Facebook page for complete details.

The Queen of Paradise’s Garden: A puppet show by Andy Jones. Hear the traditional Newfoundland story of Jack, told through puppets. For all ages. Saturday at 7:30 p.m. at the Cupid’s Legacy Centre.

Snail Mail: A Puppet Show premieres at the Railway Coastal Museum. Watch Molly the Snail on her journey aboard the Newfoundland Railway. Saturday from 3:00-4:30 p.m., with snacks, games, and activities.

​Shakespeare in Cupids: Perchance Theatre continues until the end of August with The Merry Wives of Windsor, starring Greg Malone and Andy Jones, and Henry the Fifth, starring Brian Marler. Shows run from Wednesday until Sunday at 7:00 p.m., with Saturday and Sunday matinees at 2:00 p.m. Check the Perchance Theatre website for the complete schedule and details.

The Pouch Cove Open Studios: A two-day event inviting the public into the homes and studios of Pouch Cove artists. Find paintings, drawings, prints, sculptures, photographs, hooked mats, folk art and knitted goods. See the website for details. Saturday and Sunday from noon until 5:00 p.m.

A Construction of Faith is a one-man play and escorted tour of the Basilica of St. John the Baptist. See the Basilica through the eyes of Bishop Michael Anthony Fleming, the man who dreamed it into existence. Saturday at 11:30 a.m.​

Alice in Wonderland: An outdoor musical theatre show presented by Best Kind Productions at the Cabot 500 Amphitheatre at Bowring Park. Playing Friday, Saturday and Sunday at 6:30 p.m., with matinees on Saturday and Sunday at 2:00 p.m.

Storytime in Bowring Park, with this week's storyteller, Sonya Abbot. Tales for children aged five years and older. Gather at the Fountain Pond in Bowring Park. Sunday at 2:00 p.m.
