According to the province, the extension is necessary to accommodate further environmental testing requested by the Department of Environment and Conservation.
The decision for further testing came after the review of a draft report from the project's environmental consultant.
In a statement, Minister of Transportation and Works Al Hawkins said the testing will not affect the construction schedule and therefore should not affect the target date.
