The Whitbourne RCMP detachment and the area fire department were on the scene of a vehicle fire on the Trans-Canada highway near Makinsons Sunday afternoon.

Around noon, police  blocked through traffic in the eastbound lanes, and reduced the westbound section to one lane in order to combat the fire.

The westbound lanes were later reopened, while eastbound traffic was reduced to one lane.

The blaze seems to have started in a camper that was attached to the back of a truck.

The cause of the fire is not known.

Police advice motorists to find an alternate route where possible.
