Valentine's Day to get a little risqué in St. John's
There are some worried men in St. John's.
Their significant others have been acting suspicious lately — leaving the house with lingerie in tow.
What they don't know is that their partners have been stripping it all off.
But it's not what you think.
As Valentine's Day approaches, some Newfoundlanders have decided to capture their sexy side with intimate photographs of themselves for their partners.
Photographer Melissa Pelley organizes the saucy St. John's photo shoots at Leaside Manor, a quaint and quiet bed and breakfast located in the downtown area.
Pelley, who ordinarily takes scenic P-G photos of children and their parents, said like many of her subjects, boudoir photography is something new for her as well.
"Whatever the client is comfortable with. There's been different levels of photos that I've been doing. Pretty much anything sexy, flirty, fun photos for their significant others," she said.
Sarah (not her real name) said she went to Pelley because she wanted to give her husband a Valentine's day gift he'd never forget.
"He works away and he'll be leaving around Valentine's Day, so I thought this would be a good surprise," said Sarah.
She was a little shy at first, but — with a little mood-setting music, the right lighting, and some direction — it didn't take Sarah long to settle her nerves.
"It was so much fun ...especially because you know who it's for. I'll do anything once," she said.
Pelley said she's well-equipped to make her customers photo-fantasies come true, although she doesn't think she'll ever try it herself.
"I'm not sure if I would," said Pelley.
"I'm more comfortable behind the camera. I'm not overly photogenic ... maybe in a couple of years when I lose some baby weight."
