An international flight was diverted to St. John's International Airport Sunday afternoon because of an unruly passenger on board.

The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary was called to the Austrian Airlines flight, headed from Vienna to New York, around 12:30 p.m.

Police removed a 35-year-old Israeli man from the plane.

The man was taken to the Health Sciences Centre and treated by a doctor.

He has been charged with causing a disturbance, uttering threats and violating the Aeronautics Act.

The man will appear in provincial court in St. John's Monday.
