United Airlines will be ending its direct service from St. John's to Newark, N.J., this February.

The airline's last flight from Newark Liberty International will leave on Feb. 1, while the final flight from St. John's International will depart Feb. 2.

"This was a difficult decision that we made as part of a regular review of our schedule and our best opportunities to allocate aircraft across our network," said Karen May, United Airlines' public relations manager, in an emailed statement.
