U.K.-bound flight lands in Gander due to unruly passenger
RCMP says a man who was taken off an American Airlines jet in Gander on Saturday night was drunk.
The plane was en route to London, England after taking off from Chicago when the 35-year-old American passenger became violent and refused to obey orders from the flight crew.
The captain deemed him to be a danger to the aircraft and its passengers, and made the decision to divert the flight to Gander.
The plane landed safely and the man was taken into custody by the RCMP under the Aeronautics Act.
He was charged with causing a disturbance aboard an aircraft, and mischief for damaging airline property.
The man is due to appear in provincial court in Gander on Tuesday morning for a bail hearing.
The jet refuelled and resumed its flight to London following the incident.
