RCMP on Bell Island have arrested and released a Bell Island man in connection with two hit-and-run incidents on Sunday night which injured three pedestrians.
Police said at about 11:15 p.m. they were called to the first hit-and-run on Commandments Road. A woman was hurt and taken to a local hospital.
While officers were dealing with that incident, they received a call about another hit -and-run a short distance away.
Two girls were sent to hospital with serious injuries, and one of them was later transferred to hospital in St. John's.
RCMP Cpl. Phonse Foley said the suspect was tracked down in a nearby wooded area.
"It looks more and more as the members dig into it that it was one vehicle at this point in time. We suspect that an incident of this nature would suggest that alcohol may have been involved or [was] a factor," said Foley.
Police have also found the vehicle they believe was involved in both incidents. It was extensively damaged.
