Nominations are now officially open for the leadership of the provincial Progressive Conservative Party.

The next party leader will become the 12th premier of Newfoundland and Labrador.

“We encourage all those interested in leading our party and our province into the future to consider stepping forward,” leadership convention committee co-chair Sheila Kelly-Blackmore said in a press release.

“This is an important opportunity to make a difference and, indeed, to make history.”

Nominations close March 14.

Expense limits set

The Tories have set a limit of $350,000 on campaign expenses.

And contributions to each candidate from an individual or company are capped at a maximum of $10,000.

All expenses and contributions will be disclosed to public within three months of the date of the leadership convention.

The party will pick its new leader on July 5 at the St. John’s Convention Centre.
