A Paradise man who lost his cool over a dog on the loose has wound up with a date in court, police said.

The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary said it was called to Imogene Crescent area in the town around 5:30 p.m. on Thursday.

Police said a man, 48, got angry when a dog got out of a house in the neighbourhood and began chasing a dog owned by his best friend.

Police said the man became angry and went to the house where the loose dog had come from.

The RNC said he confronted a 16-year-old girl, who was the only person home at the time. The girl was not injured during the confrontation.

Police say the man used a tire iron to damage the house.

The suspect faces charges of assault with a weapon and uttering threats.
