The Rooms in St. John's is about to embark on a landscaping and outdoor architectural project that will cost about $2.5-million.
Jim Case, an architect with Sheppard Case Architects, said part of the plan includes profiling the area's 18th-century fortifications.
"We are going to demarcate the area of Fort Townsend as it was in 1780," said Case.
"And this will grow to the following year with a sculptural garden, outdoor educational spaces, picnic spaces, an ampitheatre and performance space, additional trees, plants, shrubs, sidewalks. The whole shebang."
Case said the cost of the project has been covered with private money, thanks in part to one anonymous donor who gave $1-million towards the project.
A public session will be held at The Rooms this evening at 7 p.m. to showcase the plans.
The first phase of the outdoor project has been slated to start in May.
