Toronto couple escapes with nothing but their coats

A recreational vehicle burned to the axles on the TCH, reports David Zelcer 1:32

A spectacular vehicle fire on the side of the Trans-Canada Highway west of Gambo Tuesday destroyed the recreational vehicle of two visitors.

A couple from Ontario watched by the side of the road as their vehicle burst into flames and burned to the axles.

The man told CBC News reporter David Zelcer, who came upon the scene, "I don't know what happened. You saw what happened."

The couple from Toronto escaped from the vehicle with nothing but their coats. They didn't want to give their names.

The RCMP temporarily closed the Trans-Canada Highway in both directions because of a potential propane explosion.

The Gambo volunteer fire department responded, but the vehicle and its contents were completely destroyed.

There's no word on what caused the fire.
