Placentia RCMP says it is investigating the suspicious death of a man in the community.

Police blocked off a portion of Flynn's Lane on Tuesday afternoon during their investigation.

According to a release from the RCMP, the body was discovered at approximately 7:40 a.m. on Tuesday.

Police said they have not positively identified the body.

The RCMP Major Crime unit and RCMP Forensic Identification Services have been called in to assist with the investigation.

RCMP said there is no risk to the public.

Police are urging anyone with information to contact the RCMP in Placentia at 709-227-2000.

People in the community were shocked to hear the news about the death.

Lisa McGrath, of Five Star Taxi, said she dropped the victim off at his residence early this morning.

She said she was devastated to hear the news that her passenger had died.

"Well a lot of people that I've just spoke to today are saying, 'Oh my god, it's hard to believe,'" McGrath said.

"And now that we're hearing that maybe it was suspicious, it's kind of more of a shock than anything."

According to McGrath, many people are taking to Facebook and social media to express their shock.

"Everybody is saying, 'Oh my god, he was a harmless soul, he would never hurt a fly.' And just total shock I guess is the best way to describe it," she said.
