Police in western Labrador have charged a suspect accused of a stabbing last week that put a man in hospital.

The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary said Friday it arrested a man, 23, on charges of aggravated assault and assault with a weapon.

The charges are connected with a Jan. 10 incident outside an apartment building on Cavendish Crescent in Labrador City.

A 34-year-old man left a trail of blood inside a stairwell in the building before he was rushed to Captain William Jackman Memorial Hospital. The man's life is not at risk.

The RNC said officers arrested the man on Thursday night, and took him into custody.

Police said the case is still under investigation.
