The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary says the sudden death of a man in Corner Brook is suspicious.
The body of a man in his 50s was found around 6 p.m. Monday at 45 Main Street.
Yellow police tape blocked off the scene where forensic teams have been collecting evidence. RNC officers continue to interview neighbours and local businesses.
The apartment where the man was found is located in a building attached to the Area 45 bar.
The RNC have already followed up on a number of tips from the public. Many people, according to police, believe the man who died was in some kind of fight or brawl the night before his death.
"Certainly given the nature and the scope of our investigation and the obvious fact that we brought additional members in from St. John's and other specialized units as well, I can understand why there would be some concern and fear from the residents of the city," said RNC spokesperson Scott Mosher.
Mosher said all suspicious deaths are treated this way. He added that tips from the public are helpful.
"All I can say is that the RNC is working very closely with the office of the chief medical examiner to determine the cause of death, which has not been determined at this time," he said.
The autopsy results should be available Thursday afternoon.
