A judge in Ontario has sent a hockey player from Newfoundland and Labrador to jail for sexual assault.

Mark Yetman was sentenced to two years less a day in a St. Catharine's, Ontario courtroom on Friday morning.

Yetman was a goalie with the Eastlink CeeBee Stars, and he helped the team win the Herder trophy just this past Saturday.

But in Oct. 2012, Yetman was convicted on two counts of sexual assault.

The charges date back to 2009, when Yetman was attending Brock University in St. Catharine's.

The sentence of two years less a day means Yetman can serve his sentence in Newfoundland and Labrador.
