The federal mediator between the St. John's Airport Authority and its striking workers decided on Friday he would not bring the parties back to the bargaining table.

Barney Dobbin made the decision after five days of negotiations, followed by a five-day recess.

There was no progress made in ending the Public Service Alliance of Canada strike, which is approaching the six-month mark.

PSAC is calling on airport CEO Keith Collins to seek a new mandate from his board of directors and to return to the table immediately to resume negotiations and settle the strike.

However, the airport authority said the union's bargaining team has taken an inflexible approach to negotiations and has created a win-lose situation rather than compromise.

The authority has called a media conference for Monday morning to make a status update on negotiations.
